How to Send Money to an Inmate in Miami-Dade County Jail?
Inmates booked into any MCDR facility get a trust account where the money collected during intake is deposited. Family and friends may also make deposits into this account. However, interested persons need the inmate’s name (booking name), jail number, and facility number (233101) to do this.
Deposits may be made in person at the kiosk located in the lobby, online with the recommender provider (Touchpay), or via telephone. All options accept payments with credit or debit cards. However, cash is only acceptable in person. Inmates may use funds for self-bonding, purchase items from the commissary (jail store), or other jail expenses.
Inmate Search by Jail Facility
The Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation Department, which manages the county jail system, offers a single search tool to find inmates in any county-run facility. Individuals may use this tool to find current inmates by name.
However, persons looking for inmates in state-run facilities should perform offender searches on the Florida Department of Corrections’ website. Similarly, one may use the BOP inmate locator tool to find inmates in federal correctional facilities.
Miami-Dade County Visitation Rules and Schedules
Inmates in the Metro West Detention Center and other MDCR facilities may receive remote video visits from family and friends on the inmate’s approved master visitation list and approved professionals. Professionals and attorneys must first apply for visitation, register for visits with the recommended service provider, and wait 2-3 business days for approval before scheduling visits.
However, persons the inmate has personally included on their visitation list simply need to register, create an account, and wait about 24 hours to begin scheduling visits. Schedules will be based on the inmate’s availability and should be done at least one day (but not more than seven days) in advance. All visitors shall obey the visitation rules, which include:
- Unregistered visitors are prohibited from appearing on the video call
- Visitors must be appropriately dressed at all times
- Visits shall not be extended and will begin and end as scheduled
- Visitors must not photograph or record during the visit
- Visitors must not display inappropriate items.
Violating these rules may result in losing visiting privileges or other disciplinary actions.
Mailing and Commissary Information
Individuals who wish to mail inmates in correctional facilities operated by the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department must do so through the United States Postal Service. Mails must also be addressed to the inmate in the following format:

Additionally, senders must include their last name, first name, and return address (street address, city, state, and ZIP code) on the correspondence and envelope. The mail must be written on plain white or other acceptable lined paper. Colored papers and envelopes are not permitted. Other banned items include:
- Greeting cards and postcards

Friend and family may also purchase commissary items to be delivered to inmates. Place orders online through an approved vendor by providing the facility name and inmate number/name and making card payments.
